Ran updates now nothing shows on desktop...HELP!

Ok heres the deal, I just got a high speed connection 2
days ago (cable if it matters)Id had a dial up and didnt
want to wait for updates to download for 12 hours or
whatever so I waited until I go high speed to do updates.
Went to widows updates etc. downloaded the updates that
applied and after the last one(s) was done restarted my
computer and the only thing that showed up on my desktop
was the wall paper and NOTHING ELSE! Now the only thing I
can do is CNTRL, ALT, DELETE to see the systems manager
thing but nothing else, no access to hard drives, no
right click for properties nothing. Any help is great. Im
running windows XP home.

You can do plenty within the Task Manager, Ryan. Use File/New Task (Run).

As per your issue, this has do with your display drivers. Use the path I
listed above and type in: Control Panel, once there select System and work
your way into the Device Manager to do a roll back.
