Ramdisk boot cannot see IDE drives

I have a Ramdisk boot. I've worked around the problem of the C: drive
masked by the Ramdisk, but I'm seeing another problem. If the disk
connected to the IDE is a HDD, then all is OK. If the disk is an IDE-CF
adapter with CF installed, then none of the disk drives appear (except the
C: ramdisk). No IDE drives, no USB storage, etc. In the device manager,
the disk devices have a "!" error 37 (?) driver failed to load. As I said,
if the disk is HDD, then the HDD is found and USB storage is found.

Hi Mark,

I have seen similar errors. You canuse google to find out more about some
solution from me (ugly and not recomended but it was enough for our
purposes)

Check you setupapi.log.

There is posibility that your disks were in fact detected active for few
seconds, and that then XPe tries to install better drivers. And at this
moment there are some error in log like (vetoed).

Is this scerario you have, check your setupapi.log?

Slobodan

I'll look for and check that log. I'm in the middle of something else, but
I'll check later today, I hope.

M

Mark K Vallevand

The setupapi.log file says the driver failed to load. No clue for me. I
don't have the setupapi.log for the case when both a HDD and IDE-CF are
connected. In that case, the HDD, IDE-CF, and USB storage all are OK.

The setupapi.log file contains:

I've got this working, I think. To do it, I made sure that there was an
IDE-CF drive and a USB drive present while running FBA and during image
setup on an IDE HDD. The image is then saved, and the MountedDrives
adjusted in the registry. C->D; D->E; etc. The save image is then made
into a RamDisk and onto a USB device. Booting the USB device and its
RamDisk with only an IDE-CF drive shows the CF drive partitions correctly.

Hi Mark,

I have seen similar errors. You canuse google to find out more about some
solution from me (ugly and not recomended but it was enough for our

Check you setupapi.log.

There is posibility that your disks were in fact detected active for few
seconds, and that then XPe tries to install better drivers. And at this
moment there are some error in log like (vetoed).

Is this scerario you have, check your setupapi.log?

Well, I spoke too soon. It works on some machines and not on others. Its
the same errors as before in the setupapi.log.

Could this be related to fbreseal? I run fbreseal so that when the ramdisk
boots it has a new SID.

The setupapi.log file says the driver failed to load. No clue for me. I
don't have the setupapi.log for the case when both a HDD and IDE-CF are
connected. In that case, the HDD, IDE-CF, and USB storage all are OK.

The setupapi.log file contains:

if the disk is HDD, then the HDD is found and USB storage is found.
