RAM Question

Well, it'll run DOS and Win3.1 ;)

<snip>

Ummm that was an SX board (my typing was getting rough that late in the
day). Yeah, I don't think I even want to go back to DOS or 3.1. I never
used 3.1 since I WAS a diehard DOS person. Resisted Windows totally until
I HAD to go to Win95 in order to access the net and do other things. The
world was just passing this old DOS lady by. But, I don't regret it now
either. I'm using Windows 98SE, Windows ME, and Windows XP. I like some
things about all of them... well except Windows MEstake. ;o)

Nope, sent the RAM back today.

Too late for this.

Not sure if I'll get a refund or just a credit, but that's fine, it was
only $30 we're talking about here. I can find other stuff I can use for a
$30 credit, if that's the case. 8MB or 16MBs were not available. 32MB was
the smallest they had.

I went ahead and ordered two sticks of 32MB 2K RAM from pcwonderinc that
you sent me the URL for. I accessed another website, oempcworld.com (I
think it was) that allowed me to put in a model # to see what RAM the
system took. Since I know that the old CTX I had and this motherboard had
interchangeable RAM, I put that info in and it told me to get 32MB 2K RAM.
But they wanted $16 a stick for it, so I got it from pcwonderinc for $14
for two sticks. What the heck, maybe that will work. ;o)

Yeah, cheap enough to try :)

Let me know how they work out because I'm on the verge of getting one too
(which is why I had the URL handy), if I can ever get this blasted webpal
hack I'm working on to actually work. I have to get into the flash to flash
in a new loader but, so far, none of the methods are working.
I've had enough with Irishman the last couple days. Don't want to get
involved with any more. ;o)

LOL. Should have know there'd be problems with St. Patrick's day in the mix.

And such a good Irish name, too ;)

Yep, I'll let you know as soon as I get them and try them. The shipping
was free, but now I notice is USPS which might be a bit slower. They sent
me an order confirmation, but haven't charged my chargecard yet, so I'm not
sure how long it will take.

That's what it was! St. Patrick's day. All those Irishmen were out in
full force. Btw, my father's birthday is St. Patrick's day, you'd have
thought I'd have good luck on that day. ;o)

Oh, well, if you were a DOS person then Win3.1 configuration shouldn't
be as much of a pain since you'd be used to no Plug-n-Play anyway.

Hehe. I 'resisted' Win95 because my Win3.11 was working perfectly fine
and upgrading costs *money* ;)

Amusingly enough, you *can* get DOS Internet apps. Primitive, but it
works, sorta ;)

"Arachne is currently fullscreen graphical WWW browser which runs on
DOS"

How about that, "graphics." hehe
Rather impressive for DOS, actually.

Here http://www.opus.co.tt/dave/index.htm

Maybe there's something useful for you in there.

Win3.1 can do the Internet almost reasonably. I think IE 5 (and 128
bit encryption) was the last and Netscape 4.08. Still, that's rather
impressive for such an old O.S.

There's also a shell for Win3.1 called "calmira" to make it look like
Win95. And then to add "XP" Icons. LOL

Here's a screen shot of one (animated)

Calmira home http://www.calmira.de/

Man, I hadn't looked there in a while and mine is an older version.
I'm going to download the new one and see how it goes on my 3.11 box.

"Calmira System Requirements

386 processor or higher
Microsoft Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups 3.11
At least 4 megabytes (MB) of memory
A VGA monitor or better
A mouse "

No rush. I always use the free shipping too. Besides, you'll probably have
them long before I get his thing flashed anyway.

Is he Irish and named Murphy?
