RAM NTFS.SYS error

Hi! My PC works fine (Asus a7v600, Athlon xp 2500+,
Audigy 2, Radeon 9600 256MB, HD IBM 120 GB, HD WD 30
GB....). RAM 512 400DDR. I've bought another RAM 512
400DDR and installed it. On boot BIOS say 1 GB RAM ecc.
When WinXP Pro starts it stops saying soething about a
problem about ntfs.sys, asking me to recover from Windows
CD (R...). I've unistalled new RAM and all it's OK. Is it
a hardware problem of RAM or I have to configure
something on bios or windows? Thanks

Well, I have same problem some times ago. My PC has two DIMM's, same type
from Crucial. After one year it start crashing unexpectedly (reset, blue
screen etc.) . After long and painful investigation I found that one of the
memories was slightly defective. Unfortunately it was upper 256MB DIMM. So
when system starts, it use mostly first 256M, then after some programs
running it goes to use upper 256MB and it randomly start to fail. Just
removing second DIMM make system nice and stable. Well if You have just one
DIMM, try to replace it (most likely upper half is somehow unstable). So
simple test is to run with single DIMM at the time. Most likely it will work
with one and do not work with another. One more possibility is that load on
memory bus is too high and memory cannot work when two DIMMs are present at
the same time. To check this, set low speed in BIOS (instead 400MHz, let say
333MHz). If it is working (I have problem like that on another PC) complain
to your memory vendor rather than motherboard. Remember there are businesses
at Far East which basically buy low speed DIMMs and reprint them with high
speed marks. If You have one DIMM like that it is going to work just fine
(most of the time). Two of them rather not (too high load on the memory bus)

The two RAM modules, even though nominally the same, may not be well
enough matched - XP is very fussy on this. Does the new module work OK
if on its own?
