RAID5, I need a full backup?

Hello,

We have a 4 windows 2000 server, in the primary controler, we need install a
RAID5, I think need reinstall full system, but I have a question (The RAID is
by Hardware)

what can I do with FSMO?
Exist some solution to backup the full sytem (Includes Exhange) and restore
them (with users, shared folders, rights) because I only have a NTBACKUP?

Thanks a lot for the help.

It's a bit late to be thinking about backups now, but there are many
proprietary systems out there, such as Legato oe BackupExec which will
back everything up. However, installing a backup system at this stage on
a failing machine is a risk.

Backup is for data which you should do anyway. Don't bother with system
state. Here are some things to consider;

Option 1: Using Acronis
You can buy the server imaging program. You build your raid5 array in the
server in addition to what you have now [server OS]. You install the raid
drivers for server. You clone the server OS to the raid5. Remove the former
OS drive(s). If it doesn't boot you do a repair reinstall loading the raid
driver. Do your patches and put back online.

Option 2: New Install
Transfer the FSMO roles and DNS to another DC. Make sure that DC is also a
global catalog holder. Modify dhcp/wkst dns to point to changed DNS DC.
Dcpromo down the server. Install raid5. Install OS. Dcpromo to DC.
Transfer everything back. Change wkst dns entries.
