RAID drivers during installation issue

Hi all,

I'm trying to install Vista (beta 2, x86) on a machine with a Promise SX4060
PATA RAID controller in it. Do I need special drivers for this, or should I
be able to use the XP ones? The only blog I've found regarding RAID driver
installation is:

This doesn't say anything about what version of the drivers is being used,
or what needs to be done to get the setup to "see" them.
My floppy drive is knackered so I've tried using a USB drive and burning to
a rewriteable DVD, neither of which worked.
I'm not sure if this is due to a problem with Vista (it doesn't appear to
even try and read the DVD), the drivers, or how I've got the drivers on the
USB disk/DVD (special files needed or whatever).

I've contacted Promise inquiring about Vista drivers, no reply as yet. Can
anyone shed any light?

That's good news, thanks. Do I need to do anything special with the files? I
maanged to get my floppy drive working last night, but Vista wouldn't load
the drivers from the original Promise floppy, although XP does. I've read
somewhere the driver needs to be in the root directory, is that the case?

Just did some testing in a VM and it looks like the files do need to be in
the root, rather than the standard txtsetup.oem style. I'll have a play over
the weekend and report back.

Use the Windows 2003 drivers, as Vista is based on it.
It's what I do with my Promise controller, and it works fine.

In the "root" of what??

If you mean the root of the drive which is attached to the controller it
needs a driver to be able to see, it sounds like catch-22!

Are there any docs about supplying 3rd party drivers at Vista setup
time? I'd assumed if you press the "install driver" button in the setup
program it would offer to read from CD, USB Stick, Floppy etc?

How does it work for unattended installs when you need to get the text
mode driver into the setup manifest?

I had success getting it installed using the Windows 2003 drivers. Haven't
had a chance for extensive testing yet but everything seems to be working
fine.

I meant in the root of the floppy, USB, etc. I used a floppy in the end. I
copied the driver files from OS specific directory to the root of the floppy
and the Vista setup was able to find and recognise it. I wasn't able to find
any documentation, so it was somewhat trial and error apart from a forum
posting somewhere that gave me the hint of copying to the root of the
floppy. When you press the Install Driver button it asks you to insert the
floppy, USB drive, CD, etc. For me, only the floppy option worked but I
didn't test extensively.

No idea about unattended installs, it's not my forte

Hi Jevon,

Thanks for the udpate, it makes a lot more sense now and sounds like an
improvement, in that you can now use USB and CD.
