Unable to load RAID drivers while booting

Hello,

I've installed Vista x64 on my PC with a Highpoint RocketRAID 2310
controller. Whle installing Windows, I provided setup with the correct
drivers to the RAID controller and Windows installed quickly and
succesfully. Once in Windows, I installed the drivers, my programs
etc...

But the next day, when I started my PC, Windows hangs on the boot
screen, tellng me "NO BOOTDEVICE FOUND".... Very strange... I've tried
everything, but can't get Windows to start... After several attempts,
I insert the Vista DVD and went to the setup. I tried to repair the
startup, but no disks were detected, so I inserted my CD with
Highpoint drivers, the HDD's were detected and the startup was
repaired... 1 reboot and Vista started succesfully...

The strange thing is; everytime I shutdown the PC, Windows doesn't
reload the drivers I provided. I manually need to load the drivers
during Setup, reboot and then Windows starts succesfully...

Does anyone have any idea how this is possible and does anyone have a
clue or solution?

I assume the RAID controller bios splash showed up successfully and your HDs
are recognized correctly in the BIOS.

Hello CH,

Yes, I followed the steps John writes on his website. Windows Vista is
already installed en is running fine,
but when I boot it, Vista doesn't load the RAID drivers. I manually
need to load the drivers througt Setup, then
reboot and then Windows Vista will boot perfectly... The problem is
that when Vista needs to boot from a cold start,
it doesn't load the RAID drivers automatic.

When you have Vista loaded, reload the RAID drivers using Device Manager.
Your setup drivers are apparently going to a temp file.

I've already installed the RAID drivers in Device Management. Is it
necessary to re-install it?

No. I would double check the Raid settings in the BIOS and also make sure
the boot priority is set properly.

The RAID settings in the HPT BIOS are correct, I can't find anything
strange about it... The array where Vista is installed
is also Bootable array and in the ASUS motherboard BIOS is selected
that the RocketRAID 2310 is the primary (and only) boot
device...

Some more ideas?

Have you got the latest BIOS installed. You say the RAID is the only boot
device. What about your DVD etc.? One check on where it is booting from is
to put in the DVD, but when it says 'hit any key' , just let it boot thru
and see what happens. That triggers a different boot process.

I can boot from DVD when I insert a Vista DVD or other bootable disc.
I have the newest BIOS installed
for my motherboard and RAID controller, nothing helps...
I also tried without a DVD-drive installed and attached, so that the
only bootable device is the RAID controller.
The boot settings in the BIOS are correct, but still Vista won't boot,
not until I've manually loaded the
RAID drivers through Vista Setup and restart. After the restart Vista
starts fine, probably because Vista has
the right drivers in its memory?

I believe John was suggesting that with a DVD in the drive that you do not
"hit any key" so that it after about 20 seconds it will try your RAID
controller.
