RAID 0 in windows XP questions

I set the raid bios to recognize individual drives and had windows XP create
a stripped dynamic disk from within windows. I was wondering if I'm loosing
any performance doing the stripped dynamic disk as opposed to setting up the
raid 0 in the bios... anyone know?

My buddy told me, "If you ever format your drive (clean install) you will
loose the raid because it is setup from within your operating system. If you
have the option to do the raid from your bios this is your best bet, choose
the best cluster size for your needs format and your all set to go."

So I guess two questions
1. is a RAID0 quicker as a hardware or software setup (does it matter?)
2. is it true that if I format and reinstall my OS I'll lose all data in the
RAID?

Hardware will always be faster then software.
Your CPU does not have to run software for the raid.

And yes with Software Raid you will lose the format of the raid.
