Rage 128 PRO Question!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys, is a Rage 128 PRO just an old obsolete card or do I have it
installed incorrectly? I haven't been able to get it to play any
recent games and always get an openGL error of some sort. I have just
downloaded a new driver for it (WXPR1286133279.exe) but I still can't
get it to play the new Call of Duty !

any tips or tricks would be most appreciated, and if an upgrade is my
only option please give me your choice for a bargain gaming card for
less than $150

Yes it's very, very obsolete. The absolute bare minimum a gamer should
have is a Radeon 8500/LE or any of the 9000's (the 7000's lack some
features that newer games require).

Assuming prices are similar in the US to the UK, you should be able to
get a Radeon 9800 Pro for $150. However, given the vintage of the
graphics card you're currently using, be *very* careful to check that
your motherboard will support it.

Hello there I am not satisfied with the things Higgy said: I can play (and finish) half life 2, as
well as morrowind with only radeon 7500 and piii 1000. Before that, i had rage 128 with piii 733,
which could bring some pleasure with Unreal and half life: opposing forces. You can get recent
radeon for you system, if you have not-too-old processing unit... for less than 60 $ :)

It is of too old a design to play modern games; i.e. not compatible with
newer games.

That's not too great of a card, but certainly a lot better than the Rage 128
Pro without breaking the bank! FWIW, I have an old Xpert 2000 32MB card
laying around somewheres and that was based on the Rage 128 chipset as well.
But it was just the regular Rage 128 and only AGP 2X if I recall correctly.
The last driver update from ATI for that card was shortly after Windows XP
was publicly released nearly 4 years ago.

The last thing I want to be thought of is a technophile - I do hate it
when people insist you need the latest $500 XL5000000XSwhatever card. The
reason I ruled out 7000's is because they lack pixel shaders and some new
games will not run on them (Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Battlefield
2 and others, I'm sure).
