radeon 950 pro problem

B

Brad Rogers

Hi all,

I recently bought a ATI radeon 9500 pro and am having problems with it in my
system.
It is a Dell Dimension 8200 P4-2GHz, 512MB, 80 GB HD, it has an AGP clip for
the card, but when I close my computer case and start up the computer I get
a garbled screen. If I open the case up and reseat the card it works
fine(usually) until I close the case again. There seems to be some sort of
seating problem with this card and my system. I can put my old G3Ti500 in
and it works fine every time. I will probably take it back to the store to
see if I can exchange it, but I do not believe that to be the problem.
Are there any clips or adapters that will help me secure my card in my
system?

TIA

Hi,

Does the 9500Pro need additional power? like does it need to have a molex
cable connected to it?

Wayne,

Yes, it has an additional power connector. At first I thought it might be a
power problem, so I unhooked a few devices and that did not make a
difference. If I leave everything powered up and the case open after
seating the board it works fine. It is a retail ATI board, so there are not
any parts missing.
Are you thinking that it might be the power adapter might be faulty? Bad
cable power cord, I guess I thought if it wasn't powered it would not even
display anything.
I will check the power adapter, but if anyone has any more ideas I would
appreciate it.

Yes it does need additional power but I would think it would not work with
or without the cover. The card could but too tall and be hitting on the
cover or shorting out some how...? Let us know if you get it working.

Same problem with 9700 np I bought today. Even worse, I can't manage to have
it working either the case is closed or not. Garbled screen is already here
during bootup and bios sequences. Going back to the store tomorrow to ask
for exchange.

Brad, How long does it take for the problem to start-up? If it is a while it
could be a heat problem but if it happens at startup with the case cover on
then heat is not it I would say.

I solved my problem. I tried the card in another machine and it had the
same problem. I took it back for an exchange and the new one works just
fine.
Glad I did not buy this on-line.
Thanks for all your suggestions.
