Radeon 7500 - ATI Dropped support?

M

Mike Harrison

I was told by someone that ATI has dropped support for the Radeon 7500
chip? Is this true? This means that most new games coming out won't
support the 7500 in any form (AIW or Mobility). I have a laptop with
the mobility 7500 in it. For example, City of Heroes doesn't support
the 7500 and they say it's because of the fact that ATI has
discontinued it and won't provide updated drivers.

Is this true? The card itself is powerful enough to run any modern
game, yet just because ATI has decided to desupport it means that I'm
stuck playing older pre-2004 games?

What you have to remember is the Radeon 7500 is the same as the Original
Radeon for all intents and purposes, merely on a smaller process (0.15u
iirc) therefore allowing the chip to be clocked higher. Its not a bad card -
but it has no vertex or pixel shaders whatsoever.

I don't think ATI has dropped support for 7500. There are latest catalyst
4.2 that support 7500 totally!

However 7500 is limited card, a bit old. On par with GeForce2
ti/pro/gts/ultra (non-mx shit). They have good and fast DX7 hardware
rendering support, but that's it. Some new games require the card to be at
least Dx8.0 certified. meaning hardware pixel and vertex shaders.

Ok back to the game message, it's just some idiot who programmed it. ATI HAS
discontinued it, they don't make 7500 anymore (so is with 8500/9700/9500
etc), But they do provide new drivers. Check if you have them.
