R2400, only 5 profiles

K

Kees Hoogeland

In the printerdriver of my Epson Stylus Photo R2400 I can only choose
between 5 paper profiles.
They are: Plain paper; Premium Glossy photopaper; Premium Luster
Photopaper; Premium semigloss Photopaper and Proofing Paper Semimatte.
On www.camerahobby.com I saw a screenshot with 12 choosable profiles.
In system32/spool/color I see also 12 R2400 profiles.
How can I also print on the other papers?

Usually, with the 2200 and 2400 printers, the paper profiles that show
up in the driver are related to which black ink is installed in the printer.

There is a photo black and a matte black ink available. The matte black
ink may allow for many more profiles. I suspect you have the photo
black ink in the printer at this time.

Dag Arthur, thank you for your answer.

I have the Photo Black ink in the printer, so I thought that you were
right, but in the list on www.camerahobby.com en in my color map in
spool/drivers I see Photo Quality Ink Jet Paper; Velvet Fine Art
Paper; Ultra Smooth Fine Art Paper. I expexted to see these also in
the printer driver, especially PQIJ. The list in Camerahobby is
interesting for there are photo- and matte papers together.

If I choose the correct article,
http://www.camerahobby.com/Digital_EpsonR2400.htm , what is shown are the
paper type choices, not the available profiles in the capture just above:
"Next up, printing large 13x19 prints with Premium Semi Gloss paper."
However if this list is missing papers that's not a good thing. First thing
to verify is the driver hasn't been updated by getting the latest available
off the Epson web site.
In system32/spool/color I see also 12 R2400 profiles.

What application are you printing from, is it color managed? You do not
want to apply color management twice. At least for my R800, I've found I
get better results if I set Qimage and not the driver itself to manage
color.

I believe I may still have given the correct answer. The papers you
indicated below are all matte surfaces which work best with the more
dense black ink offered by the matte ink.

The Photo black is a considerably less dense black ink. The reason for
it is that to make the black ink dense, (in the Ultrachrome pigment
inks) requires a fair amount of pigment. Adding that much pigment to
the ink makes it dry flat/matte, and glossy paper cannot hold that much
pigment, so it would tend to rub off or be powdery.

The matte black ink is preferable overall, so in applications where the
paper has a matte and relatively accepting surface, the matte black is
the preferred route. The papers you list below pretty much fit that
description.

I just looked at the link Ed Ruf supplied, and it does appear that the
list they show is a full list of Epson papers for the 2400, inclusive of
both photo and matte black inks.

I agree with Ed, that these are not necessarily all available with both
inks, and that they should show up, however, in that menu box.

I also agree with Ed that your driver may be incomplete or have been
corrupted, if you are looking in the same place within the driver and
not at another location.

thanks Arthur and Ed,

I uninstalled mij driver and deleted the 12! R2400 profiles from
Windows color map. I installed a new downloaded update( in English no
Dutch). Now it is as the screenshot on
www.camerahobby.com/Digital_EpsonR2400.htm . So I now can select (with
the PhotoBlack cartridge installed) the Photo Quality Inkjet Paper. I
thought that that combination is the right one.
Remarkable is that the driver\color map has now 18 r2400 profiles
with 7 drivers double except with the suffix _PK.
