R200 ink tones differ from other Epson dye-based inks

Hi all,

I bought an Epson R200 months ago and, because of prohibitive cost of
original cartridges in my country, installed on it a CIS using
Sensient generic dye-based inks for Epson printers. Some weeks ago
when I finished printing a massive quantity of 4x6" pictures and gave
more attention to color reproduction, I have noticed a greenish cast
which could be verified on every paper type, specially in the range of
dark tones. I don't know if it was something new because I have no old
print to compare. Anyway, I have done a little research for other ink
manufacturers and found among of them a brand which make inks
specifically for the R200. I called their representative and he
confirmed the R200 uses some inks (not only the light ones) in tones
which subtilely differ from those of C63/65/67/83/85/87 series. I
purchased a sample of them and all that green cast and other
color-related problems were gone. Another fact strengthen the thesis
is that the old ink produced great and consistent colors on a C87.

So, anyone have any information or experience that would comply,
complement or disagree with the narrative above?

TIA

Just two things.
Firstly you have confirmed what most of us believe, that it is unwise to use
generic inks, compatible inks properly formulated for your printer are critical.
Secondly it confirms that there are compatible inks manufacturers that really
know their business and are able to not only give excellent advice but also
provide excellent formulated product.
Thank you for the above.

So what this really boils down to is how can one find out the companies that
will reliably sell after-market ink that will maintain the quality of the
original OEM ink (or better) and not clog one's printer? The only way I know
at this point is to read the posts and then try it out for myself. At what
point will the Consumer Reports of aftermarket ink standards arise and give
help? No, I wasn't think of Measkite for help here.

Yes, there are many of us who have been thru the after market inks wars
and have won!
We know the good and the bad, so it makes sense and cents to follow our
advice. We are real after market ink users not a bullshit moron idiot
liar like meashershithead who has never ever used anything but oem
overpriced ink.
Don't believe him. Don't trust him. He is a lying mentally deranged person.

Absolutely right on all counts.
To be fair this is no different to hundreds of other industries.
Bottom line - read, learn and inwardly digest - then try for yourself.
I wish it was different.
