R click folder and "Make available offline" is greyed out

I am trying to get rid of offline files and when I navigate from an XP
client to the w2k DC and right click on the offending folder.... "Make
Available Offline" is greyed out (disabled).

I have no idea why this is, does anyone have any clues??

Thanks-
Steve

The ability to turn off Offline Folders has been disabled by the GPO
more-than-likely.

yeah, I looked through there. Never used the GPO before... I adjusted the
templates, I hope that is all I need to do??

THanks

Same problem here with deploying a new Dell laptop running Windows XP Pro,
SP2 and a Windows 2003 server. Note: we have home directories setup for all
our users with their Outlook email *.pst files located in their home
directory. The new laptop want to synchronize very time the user logs off and
complains about the *.pst files.
I have verified the server group policies and found that both the "Local
Computer Policy" and the "User Configuration" are "Not Configured".
Has anyone found a solution to this prblem?
Note: I have found MKBA - 811660 And it claims the lastest service pack for
Microsoft Windows XP will resolve it but no luck!

Thanks,

Enable Offline Folders is Greyed Out

One of my computers with Windows XP Pro had the same fault. In the MY COMPUTER --- TOOLS --- FOLDER OPTIONS window I tried to use the CTRL+SHIFT click on the DELETE button to delete the offline database files in case they were corrupted but I got a message that I was not authorised to have access.

I was not interested in retaining any offline files and just wanted to get rid of the problem so I looked in the registry at: HLM/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/WINDOWS/CURRENT VERSION/NETCACHE and noticed that the subkeys were missing. I then attempted to add some keys but it would not let me edit the NETCACHE key. I then RIGHT-CLICKED on the NETCACHE key and selected PERMISSIONS. No access rights were granted and so I checked the box FULL CONTROL --- ALLOW box for my profile and I was then able to edit the keys. I added the following two default DWORD keys:

DefCacheSize = 266 (decimal)

Enabled = 0

And this enabled the greyed out ‘Enable Offline Files’ to start functioning correctly.

It looks as if something (either an update or application installation) messed up my original installation setting in NETCACHE and made it read only thus causing the problems.

I hope that this helps you? It worked for me.

I had the same problem. I logged on with the local administrator. Changed

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\NetCache\Enabled
HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\ Windows\NetCache\Enabled.

And the problem was solved.
