Quiet 24-port gigabit switch?

Chris

I need a 24-port gigabit switch to work in a quiet office environment.
I've read reviews of the most popular switches that suggest that they
have very loud fans. Does anyone know of one which is quiet?

Can't answer your question directly but if you operate it with the
case/cover removed you probably can run it safely with the fan disabled.
Indeed, it might run even cooler without the cover than it would with
the cover on and fan spinning. (This of course doesn't apply to
equipment where the fan is attached to a heat sink that is
attached to a heat source like a CPU),

My 8-port LinkSys gigabit switch used to be very loud. With the
instruction that I got in this newsgroup, I replaced the noisy fan
inside the switch with a quiet version, and run the fan slightly
slower to further cut down the noise. It is running quiet and no
problem since then. You can see the details in the message thread
under this title:
"How to Keep a Noisy LinkSys Gigabit Switch Quiet?"

You may be able to do something like this to make a 24-port gigabit
switch very quiet.
