Quicktime Alternative

I am running Win Vista Ultimate. I have many .mov files that would like to
watch. Quicktime does NOT work in Vista. It was suggested to find VLC
Media Player v8.6b and that would work if in Preference --> Video --> Output
Modules --> Advanced was set to Windows GDI video Output.

VLC runs but with NO Video, only the sound plays. Changing that Preference
did NOT help.

Does anyone know of program that will play .mov files or a codec for WMP to
successfully play .mov in Vista??

Any help would greatly appreciated.

I have no problem with QuickTime and Vista Ultimate x86.

How exactly does QuickTime not work for you?

I've seen reports that the following free download
works on Vista...maybe it would be worth a try:

QuickTime Alternative 1.81

I think the Gom Player with the QuickTime Alternative codec will do it.

Last I checked, VLC, an outstanding media player, was not yet compatible
with Vista but they were working on an updated version.

Yes, it works slowly (taking about 5-7 seconds just to launch for me), but
it works.
