QuickTime 7.1 for Windows (no i-tunes)

XPpro/SP2 fully updated.

Installed QuickTime 7.1 with no difficulty but when I tried to open a small
error message panel was shown: Error 47 Invalid url
and only the top toolbar of QT 7.1 appeared. Re-installed and ran chkdsk to
no avail

I have no idea what the error message means nor how to correct.

Ask QuickTime (Apple) tech support.

Cymbal Man Freq.

I got the same problem. I think 7.1 is buggy, and potentially non-functioning.
Go to Help and click ("Visit Quicktime Site").
I get doubled audio on some QT music video files, but not on others. But there
is a little notice on that page that says "Quicktime 7 Required." Go watch the
Paris Hilton video on Quicktime.

When it comes to support from either Apple or Microsoft (or, for that
matter most every large company), you probably will get more useful
response from fellow users than from the company's tech support line.

The fellow users in this particular newsgroup primarily know about
Windows XP, although some of them are very knowledgeable about other
systems as well. For problems with installing QuickTime -- especially
when iTunes is involved -- your best bet is
http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=792

If you've already exhausted the Apple peer newsgroups, and that's where
you got the response, "It's an XP fault," post back with more detail
about what you were told was supposed to be "an XP fault."

This is an update:
1. Uninstalled 7.1 and re-installed 7.02 - problem vanished!
2. Establshed that the problem is that QT 7.1 does not recognize the url for
Real Player in order to switch to itself.
3. Uninstalled Real Player and 7.1 opened normally

Can't find out why QT 7.1 behaves differently from 7.02 and Microsoft
themselves are at a loss.

Do you experts have a clue please?

Addition.

Is there a site that still has a 7.02 dowload? Luckily I had made a CD of
it several months ago.
