Quicklaunch shortcut to the desktop

By mistake I permanently deleted the quick launch shortcut to the desktop in
Windows XP.

I followed the fix published by MS where you create the shortcut manually in
a file called Show Desktop.scf. Although the shortcut appears in the correct
place, the icon is wrong and it doesn't work at all.

I can create a shortcut to the desktop viewed within a window but I just
want to see the desktop normally! can anybody help me - there must be a
simple fix out there.
