quick launch

I cannot move program icons into the quick launch area of my taskbar. (New laptop
I have clicked to unlock the taskbar, but I still cannot do it.
HELP says to do this from "My Computer" and or "Windows Explorer.
Still no dice. I am used to doing this easily with WIN ME. which I have on a desktop
Just drag and drop on ME....? Am I doing something wrong

I know silly question but:::

Do you have the quick launch toolbar enabled?
 
Yes....
I was messing around with it a while ago, and made the taskbar double width; THEN I was able to drag icons to it? Couldn't do it when it was single wide?
But I got them there now
