greetings! for six months, my quick launch toolbar
worked just fine. a week ago (possibly in association
with a "bridge.dll" error message), the toolbar stopped
working properly (even after the bridge message was
successfully removed). the toolbar unchecks itself any
time i log off. even when re-checked, the icon line-up i
arrange is lost. is there anyone out there who has come
across a solution?

Bridge.dll is part of a spyware program. Each spyware program has specific
removal instructions; you can't remove them on your own.

Did you use your spyware removal software to remove the spyware, or did you
follow specific directions posted on the web?

It's caused by a malware BlazeFind. Open Registry Editor and navigate to:

HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
In the right-pane, change the value of Userinit to "C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,"

(Type the above value exactly as given, including the comma - exclude the quotes)

Close Registry Editor and restart Windows. The Quick Launch settings should be retained now.
