quick launch toolbar

does anyone have a solution for a disappearing quick
launch toolbar? it worked fine for seven months. after
an overwhelming intrusion by spyware, the toolbar no
longer stays clicked and the icons no longer remain in
the order i set and have to be clicked and arranged every
time i boot up. one of the problems during the spyware
invasion could only be resolved by removing a bridge.dll
item from the registry. any assistance that can be
provided would be greatly appreciated.

One possibility is an incorrect Userinit value.

Start, Run, type: Regedit

Locate :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Check the value for Userinit

It should be: C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\userinit.exe, (note including the comma,)

Note you can save the registry key first by:
On the File menu, click Export.
In the File name box, type SaveKey, and then click Save.
Or create a system restore point prior to editing.
