Quick Launch Toolbar

I lost the quick launch toolbar and when I attempt to
create the toolbar I receive the following
message: "CANNOT CREATE TOOLBAR". Everything that was in
the toolbar is now in a floder on my desktop.

Hi Cslagle,

Close the programs you have open, grab the window that makes up thefolder or
Quick Launch toolbar window and drag it onto the taskbar. If it looks like
it's going to make another line to the taskbar, don't worry. Let it go
there. Do you see the vertical lines at the left end of each toolbar. The
one that is on the right side of the Start button. Put your mouse over it
until you have a double arrows, and double click it. It has three positions
like a three-way light bulb kinda. Stop double clicking it, when it is in
the place you want it.

Open a few programs and see if it is right. If it is to the right of your
programs, just double click on the taskbar "handle" again.

I hope this is clear to you.

One other thing. If the Quick launch toolbar ends up on the right side of
the programs you open, grab the handle and just drag it over the program(s)
buttons until it is close to the Start button.

Good Computing,

Is it actually a folder, or are the icons just in a window? If it's a
window, you can drag it back into the taskbar.

You can also drag a normal Quick Launch toolbar out onto the desktop.

Hi Jerold:
The trick you're pointing to only works if the actual quick launch folder
is missing, I should point out that I've now run across over five instances
(in Win2K) where people had some type of Spyware / Adware on their system
that was removed by ether Adaware or Spybot Search and Destroy and the
folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\<User>\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Quick Launch

did still exist (with apparent normal attributes and permissions) however
when selecting "Quick Launch" from the toolbars menu you would still get the
"Cannot Create" message. Deleting and recreating the folder and then creating
new links in it does not fix the problem. I believe that one of the removed
programs changed the registry in a way that somehow causes this error.

Eric McGillicudy in the message above gives a link to a registry file that
he indicates fixed the problem in Windows XP for him, I'm going to have to
give this a try on one of the Win2K machines and see if that does the trick.
You may want to rewrite that tip to include this information.
