Quick Launch bar not saving

E

Eric W.

My quick launch bar disappears everytime I restart. I
then have to right-click on the toolbar and check quick
launch and it reappears until I restart again. I've tried
creating a new account but still have the same problem.
Any help on how to retain my settings?

Check the computer for viruses and other malware.

Thanks, but I guess I should have mentioned that I ran
Norton and Adaware with the latest updates beforehand and
came up with nothing. Are there any other suggestions?

Re-scan your system from the Safe Mode to make sure that it is clean.
Check your startup settings to find out if something here is causing
this. Applications that start with Windows can be found here:
- the WIN.INI, section [windows], entries "run=" and "load="
- the Registry keys
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
- the folders
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\{username}\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP

This is happening to us aswell, This can not be any virus, We are a government agency Our secruity is good. Some of our Pc's are losing their Quick Launch after a reboot & some are not effected. Is this bug with Windows XP SP2? Is it a setting that the reg is not saving? Has anyone else experienced this?

I had the very same problem with the quick launch bar disappearing for the longest time and no forum solution or registry tweaking would make any difference. Then I stumbled into what seems a bizarre 'correction' solution but it worked for me and I'd throught I'd share it. I downloaded the true launch bar freeware from http://www.truelaunchbar.com/ and then after I installed that software - the regular quick launch task bar would not disappear anymore. I uninstalled the truelaunchbar software (cause I didn't want to pay for it) but something in that installation corrects the settings for my malfunctioning quick launch bar. Hope this strange work-around can help fix someone else's problems as well.
