quick burner brand question

is one particular brand better than another? I've never really paid any
attention to it in the past but I can get a Pioneer 16X16X DVD DUAL DOUBLE
LAYER REWRITABLE "on sale" for $69.90 or I can get an NEC with the same
specs for $59 and I'm just wondering if the pioneer is really worth the
extra $10.

Pioneer makes very good quality drives. You'll get the same results on
an NEC but I think Pioneer drives are heavier and therefore vibrate less
(meaning less noise). Any drive is fine really, all the "lesser" brands
are using the same technology. But it seems like expensive ones like
Pioneer put a little more detail into getting all their screws
tightened, etc.

$70 is a really good price, they were like $40-50 more than NEC drives a
few months ago.

not that this is a huge difference but I did just notice that the Pioneer
caps out at CD-R: 40X Max where as the NEC caps out at CD-R: 48X Max... I
guess you have to shave off a little speed to get less vibration... still
though that is a big price difference and I would like a quieter drive.

What model is it?, the Pioneer 109 and the NEC 3520?, they are both roughly
the same. Same specs etc.

There appears to be more support and hacked firmware for the NEC though,
