Hi All

I have 2 WinXP home edition PCs networked together by Ethernet, but I can't
get them to do a simple file share.

I've just checked TechNet and it says 'oh this can be done quite simply and
will only take 1 day' .... what???

I know its a lot to ask, but could anybody post me a short, sharp idiot's
guide on how to set this up.

I can't believe how complex this has been made in the Home edition when the
Prof edition can be set up in minutes!!!

Many thanks.

Thanks for coming back to me.

My apologies for the hardware confusion. The 2 pcs are connected via an
ethernet hub and ping each other fine.

If I connect a Win98 machine to the network then the WinXP's can see the
Win98's shared folder no problem if I use the \\Server method.

Can I use this type of method to connect up 2 WinXP home machines?

Hello
I am not sure but if I understand you have the 2 puters connected with a Cat
45 cable without a router or hub, if that is the case it takes a different
cable to network 2 puters without any type of hub, it is call a cross over
cable.

Hello Laphan
There shouldn't be any trouble, have you run the network setup wizard on
both puters, have you set the appropriate protocols, Client for MS Network,
File and Print Sharing, Net Protocol TCP/IP,
I also run the NW Link IPX/SPX that allows me to connect to the other puters
on the network even if someone turns there firewall on.
If everything is set right make sure your files are set to share.
