Questions about Windows 7 upgrade from Vista

I'd buy a new machine today if W7 was shipping. If I buy a Vista
machine today, what constitutes "proof of ownership" when I upgrade to
w7? I hope it's the registration tag on the case because nobody sells
the Microsoft distro CD on cheap machines any more.

Will I be able to do a scratch installation of W7 when I do the
upgrade?

What's the best guess for when w7 will ship in the US?

Right now you can buy a Vista Machine with an "upgrade" coupon
that entitles you to a free upgrade to W7.........come October
