Questions about vacuuming gravel

Questions about vacuuming the gravel in a tank:

1. How often do you do it?

2. Do you take out the decorations in order to get at the gravel?

3. I always feel rushed when I'm changing water and vacuuming the
tank. What kind of gravel cleaner do you use? How well do you get
the gravel cleaned?

4. Are there special considerations for gravel cleaning with a UGF?
e.g. not exposing the UGF grate while cleaning?

Thanks!

If you use a UGF along with an external box filter, you should need to
vacuum the gravel, assuming that you're not overfeeding the fish and all
things are balanced.

Having said that, if you do choose to vacuum the gravel, try to avoid
exposing the UGF grate. Disturbing the grate or suctioning any of the
material that has accumulated under the grate will diminish it's cleaning
abiilty.

There's a fishtank group?!? Coooool.

I remember reading on Slashdot a comment along the lines that "that idea
makes about as much sense as trying to sell earrings made out of poo".

A subsequent poster responded to the effect that, no matter how insane
you think an idea is, someone, somewhere, has had that idea and espouses
it over the internet. He then went on to give a link to a site that
really did sell earrings out of excrement.

Whenever I see a fish.

I just use 1-cup of laundry bleach per 5-gals tank size. Pour the
bleach in then remove any fish that float to the top.

If anybody asks where the fish are I just say "they're sleeping".

Isn't it amazing what a well-rounded group ACF is? No matter what accidental
subject is posted here, there is always someone with a good reply, and are
kind enough to do so.

Now, does anyone know a crossover hydraulic filter # for a TC35 diesel
tractor? :D
