After re-installing XP Media Center , I am now asked on start up to chose
ether xp media or xp pro. Then hit enter. Then all works well. How can I stop
being ask this question at start up?

Go to Start > Run and type: MSCONFIG , and hit enter.
Click on the BOOT.INI tab and then click on "Check All Boot Paths"
to delete incorrect boot paths.

My reply is at the bottom of your sent message:

The first question is do you have both MCE and XP Pro installed? If so leave
it so you can boot to either install. If not then manually edit your
boot.ini file to reflect what is actually installed and to rid the system of
the prompt.

When I go to "check all boot paths" it tells me that BOOT.INI. is O.K. . I
can see both boot start ups (mce) & (xp pro) but cannot get rid of the pro.
Making mce the default dosen't help,when I reboot it tells to go to BOOT.INI.
and fix it. How can I delelte this line?

I do not have xp pro. I also cannot edit the pro line from BOOT.INI. ,It
tells me all boot paths are o.k. There must be some other way to edit this?

Right-click MY COMPUTER and select:

Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery Settings > Edit

CAREFULLY edit your boot.ini file to remove the SECOND entry.
Your boot.ini file should then read similar to this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows Media Center Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

after deleting the xp pro line, when I reboot it now replaced the line (XP
PRO) with WINDOWS (DEFAULT). If I go to BOOT INT and click the xp windows
media center as the default on reboot I get the go back and repair by
selecting normal start up. of course when I do I am asked to pick windows
media or windows (default).
