Hi,

I am trying to load WIN 98 SE into my buddies PC and for some reason it is
not readin the D drive which is his CD/DVD Rom. I booted from the floppy.

I just built this for him so I may be missing something.

Can someone help? thanks

You need to load device drivers for the drive as well. You can find a
boot disc with CD support here:

http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

Is this not available on the boot up disk windows comes with?

I would think that the Win98 boot disk would include those drivers. The
link I provided has CDrom drivers for sure, though.

CDR101: Not Reading Drive D

That's a bit bizarre, as the standard Win98 book disc creates a ramdisk
as drive D, and the drive loads as E.

Try creating a disk from the link below:

Just for a moment, forget about the floppy/drivers... If
the following seems ok then try moving the drive to another
IDE controller position.

Does the bios detect the drive correctly?
Is it jumpered correctly?
Do you have a western digital (or other) drive as the master
but it's jumpered as single instead of master (applies only
to a drive that has separate single and master jumper
settings)?

Forget the floppy and boot from the CD.
