BIOS checksum error

Henning Sørensen

Sitting here with my son's EZ-Buddie having trouble....
I am not quite sure what has happened, but when starting the machine
it writes the following:

Quote
Award Bootblock BIOS v1.0
Copyright (c) 2000, Award Software Inc.

BIOS ROM checksum error

Detecting floppy drive A media...
Drive A error. System halt
Unquote

This only when inserting a gfx card, the onboard gfx does not work.

Since a EZ-Buddie does not have any floppy, I am worried, that
he or one of his helpfull friends (the well known "pc-specialists")
has tried to make a BIOS flash.

He is away at the moment, so I cannot ask him...

Is there any other way than getting a new BIOS/motherboard to
save the machine ??

Unfortunately that didn't work :-(

/Henning.

Do you know the motherboard's maker.
If yes, download the bios update from the maker site.
Read the instruction before flashing.

Yes - I can find the bios update, but since this machine does not have a
floppydrive.... :-(

Is it possible to enter the bios setup menus prior to it
halting at that message? Are you certain you're pressing
the correct key(s) to intervene in the POST process and
enter the bios menus?

Does it have a floppy header on the motherboard? If so a
floppy could temporarily be added.

Have tried all the keys/combinations I know off - no result.
There is no floppy iinterface on the motherboard :-(

Seems I will need to find another board.

Am I missing something, or do you not just need to enter the BIOS settings
and turn off the existence of A: drive. You will have options like 720k,
1.44, 2.88, Disable - obviously you choose None or disable? That is what I
have done here as I too do not have a floppy drive in this PC.

That's about the only time the clock does not show :)

To bad :)
But since you already have a crc-error in your bios settings:
Select 'default' or 'fail safe' or 'optimum' in your bios.
That should take care of the crc-error.

Then, make any modifications you need in those settings.
And when in doubt: don't touch the setting!
