Question On Hit Counters

No. And, you won't really get a true visitors hit counter. Anytime the
user hits the same page, or refreshes it, it adds another "hit".
 
In addition to the hit counter, if you're serioius about getting accurate
performance data you can always examine the log files. Most hosts will
provide the raw log files for you that you can then run through a log file
analyzer to get decent performance metrics and a better idea of how many
people visit the site, what they look at, what search engines and bots are
visiting, etc..
