Question concerning docking station and regular computer

Hello experts,

Last year I built a computer for my brother. Works great. He just got a
job with a company which let him bring home a docking station for a laptop
they also provided him. He brought home his docking station, and that works
great too. But I noticed a problem. What he does is pull the keyboard,
mouse and monitor cables from the computer and plug them into the docking
station so he can use those devices with the laptop. When he wants to use
the computer he plugs those same cables into the back of the computer. As
you can imagine, this gets old quick. My mind can' seem to flesh out the
proper solution here. Would a plain old KVM switch work? I know this is
the Windows XP group and not really an XP question. But both systems do run
XP though. :)

It should.

The KVM supports the monitor too, buying a mouse and keyboard won't help the
display.
Most laptops have a pretty decent LCD screen now. He might not need
another display.
