Question about the Start button

How can I change the "Start" text on the button to some other word?

You have to use a hex editor and change explorer.exe. You should be
aware that changing the hex strings inside of explorer.exe can lead to
undesirable effects. If you feel comfortable using hex editors and
still feel that you want to edit explorer despite possible side effects
post back and I'll try to find a page showing details and how to do it.
That being said, it isn't all that hard to do and some say that it
causes no problems.

Instead of editing explorer hex you might want to look at this:

Hook99 - Start Button Properties

It will allow you to change the start button but a drawback is that it
runs as an extra process.

Thanks (for both replies).
While I'm inclined to use Hook99 (in the interest of simplicity), I am
also interested in learning how edit explorer.exe to accomplish this.
Also, can you recommend a user-friendly (and preferably free) hex
editor?
