Is it possible to put a Windows XP system into simple Stand By and then have
it be awoken via a network ping? We have two systems that don't need to be
accessed more than about 30 minutes per week and would love to put them into
a lower power state. But when we need them, it's a real PITA to get to them
(in a closet) and wake them. Would love to be able to do that across our
LAN.

Any ideas...?

if your cmos supports it, the option
to wake on lan setting will be there''

Hi
Regular Standby means let the computer run on reduced power. I.e not very
economical for 30 min. per week access.
If the computer it is compatible with Wake On LAN (WOL), it can be Off, and
be started from remote.
See here, http://www.ezlan.net/WOL.html
