Hello, I'm running XP Pro which was an upgrade applied to Win 98. I
recently made the mistake of upgrading my browser with a virus app
running in the background and now most of my software doesn't work at
all or has significant problems, including Microsoft Office 2000. When
I try to start them I get various error messages telling me to reinstall
them. Tried several restore points but nothing helped. So now I'm faced
with a massive reinstallation drill. My question is: is it always best
to remove a program first (using add/remove programs) before
reinstalling it? I'm trying to minimize extraneous garbage in my
registry, etc., especially since my XP Pro was installed over Win 98.
Also, after I finish all my reinstallations, is there a foolproof (lol)
way to clean up loose program ends? My goal is to do this in a manner
that will leave my system as stable as possible after it's done. Thanks.
