Landy Allen, David Reed, thank U for answer.

The 'ntoskrnl missing or corrupted' problem is always occured when boot
system

(I used one hdd with 1 partition.And work with embedded XP sp1)

The error message is
==========================================================================
Window could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.
==========================================================================

I did below things for solving the problem.

1. Check "boot.ini"
<boot.ini contents>
- [boot loader]
- timeout = 0
- default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
- [operating systems]
- multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft windows XP
Embedded" /fastdetect

2. check the 'ntoskrnl.exe' file
The file exist at 'WINDOWS/system32/'.

3. When I built image at target designer, set the directory setting below.
Boot drive - C:
Windows folder - C:\WINDOWS
Program Files folder - C:\Program Files
Documents and Setting folder - C:\Documents and Settings
Boot ARC path -
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)
Boot partition size - 1024
Partition cluster size - 4096

Hmm, I think that set correctly.

What is cause...?..

If know cause, let me know..

That particular error happens with me all the time when I reformat the disk
with NTFS, copy a new image but forget to set the partition active.

I've never seen the machine hang after POST (even after almost 12 months of
fighting with XPe)

No, I don't that that's it either. Here's my thinking; if
the partition was not set as active, then system would
stop after the BIOS POST and sit there with a blinking
curser because there is no MBR on the drive.

Try this: make sure have the correct version of ntldr &
ntdetect.com in the root of the drive. If you try to use
the Win2k version of these files, this error will occur.
The good news is the version of ntldr & ntdetect in XPe &
XP Pro are backwards compatible with Win2k. So dual
booting with Win2k is possible.

If you have done this already and the systems still hangs
up, then the only other thing I can think of is to make
sure the hard disk was prepared for the XP Pro operating
system, and not for Win2k.

If Win2k was originally on this hard disk, and you just
formatted the drive to remove it, then your hard disk's
MBR is most likely still incorrect and you will see
errors like this.

You need to set the partition as 'Active'
