Question about .Net

LouisG

i have a program that has been having some problems and the software manuf.
suggested that this program doesn't run well with .net 2.0

i checked out what i have and found that i have .net 1.1 (a couple of
instances of it ,,hotfixes etc) and .net 2.0 installed.

now i was running this progrma just fine until it froze on me , and after
rebooting it went from a normal font to a scripted font. there is no place
in the program to change fonts so they told me to uninstall .net and
reinstall the program.

i'm just wondering ,first off , what .net should i be using , what programs
require it and is it safe to just uninstall all the instances that i have
of .net and reinstall just the one version.

thanks to all

It may well be worth recalling that "LouisG said:

A particular program will only work with a particular version of dotnet - it
reflects the environment in which the program was produced. The software
producers may, however, have previous versions of the program that use an
earlier form of the dotnet framework.

I can't say what all programs use what flavor of .net. I have used two,
Drive Image 7.0 (from the now defunct Powerquest Corp) which uses .Net 1.1,
and the Vista Upgrade Advisor which needs .Net 2.0. I believe an applet
associated with ATI's drivers uses .Net - not sure of the version.

You could uninstall all versions, then run your programs and see which one's
complain. They will normally suggest you install the required version and
say what that version is. Often times it's included on the original
installation media.

Nothing native to XP needs any flavor of .Net. In the worse case scenario,
uninstall the probematic app, then reinstall.
