Question about installing a french version with a English key

I assemble computer for my friends and did one more last week.

Unfortunatly, he forgot to tell me he wanted a french OS. Now Windows XP
english is installed and he wants a french one.

Now the question.

If I borrow a french CD from a friend, will I be able to install it with the
Key I received? Will I be able to activate my product?

You will have to purchase the French version of XP and install
that version with a new key for that OS

Damn, there's no other way?? I'll have to spend 200$ bucks? Since I was
buying this with a whole computer, I got it OEM, now I'll have to buy it

Well, that sucks.. No wonder Microsoft makes tons of money, making it
