Question about auto Dates!

I've skimmed through a bunch of the postings regarding "automatically update"
dates. But I'm not convinced this is right...

Ok, let's say I create a document and have somewhere "Last modified [date]".

So, I want this to automatically update when I save the doc, but if I just
open to read.

Is there any way to do this?

Use a SaveDate field.
