Query Personal Address book -v- Contact list

If I have understood what others are saying about Outlook 2000, Personal
Addresses are .pab files and Contacts are .pst. I was not aware of the .pab
files. I have recently changed from Outlook Express to MS Outlook (2000) I
am running XP Pro and Office 2000. When I upgraded from OE I seem to have
the majority of my previously used contacts (some are missing for some
reason - especially the group contacts). I though I should be using
Personal Address so followed the following MS instructions:-

..
1.On the Tools menu, click Address Book.
2.Click New Entry .
3.Under Put this entry, click Personal Address Book in the list.
4.In the Select the entry type list, click Personal Distribution List.

I carried out 1 Clicked on NEW (did not have "New Entry") but after that I
could not see "Personal Address Book" the only choices I have is "New
Contact" & "New Group" what am I doing wrong. What are the advantages in
having "Personal Addresses" against just having "Contacts" ?

There is no reason to use a PAB. It was replaced by the Outlook Address Book
years ago. Use it instead. It is the service that allows access to your
Contact data by other programs and for display in the Address Book view.

Go to Tools > Services. Make sure the Outlook Address Book service is
listed. If not, add it. Next, R click on the Contact folder or folders you
want the OAB to display, choose "Properties", go to the Outlook Address Book
tab and check the "Show this folder as an E-mail address book" box. You may
also need to go to Tools > Options > Addressing Tab and choose to show your
Contacts folder.
