Hi,

How is the quality of watching TV trought TV-out on the Ati Graphics cards?
Are there improvements made on the new ( XT versus non XT )cards?
How is the quality compared to my old Matrox G400 ( Is this still the best
TV looking graphics card)??
I am considering buying the Asus 9600 XT/TVD card.

If all you want to do is 2D, stick with Matrox.

If you want ultimate 3D performance, that is when you want to go to ATI.

I happen to have both at my home computers....G400 at the "office" pc, and
R9600 on the "game" pc. Using (the exact same) s-video cable to connect to
(the exact same) tv-set I really can't tell any difference. On the monitor
the G400 is slightly better (sharper at higher resolutions) as expected.

There is one thing though on the TV-outs where G400 is better then
Radeon...G400 actually supports 16:9 widescreen TV. There is a 16:9 setting
in Radeon Catalyst settings (3.8 or newer) but it doesn't do anything,
atleast not for me it doesn't; tv-out stays 4:3 despite the setting. On the
G400 when set to 16:9 it works exactly the way it is supposed to. I can get
the Radeon image to view fullscreen on my 16:9 tv, but I have to set the tv
to "zoom in" the 4:3 image in letterbox mode. This sacrifices vertical
resolution, but as I said earlier you really can't tell the difference
between the two tv-out images (you might if you have a super-hifi-high-end
tv-set).
