Q's on Updating from XP Home to Pro

[Buy Without Windows?]

I'm considering purchasing an Alienware Area-51 M
notebook. I can get a great deal for Windows XP
Professional and Office XP with Powerpoint for really
cheap through my school.

I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to get
an Alienware without any Windows installed (so I only
install the one from my school).

Since it probably isn't possible, can I get the XP Home
for a bit cheaper and then buy the package from my school
and "update" it? I'm worried that I might mess something
up by installing the Professional Edition when the Home
Edition is already installed.

As far as what version of Windows comes with your system, that is handled
exclusively by the system manufacturer (AlienWare in your case).

Home to Pro upgrades are supported, but you should check with the license
for your school's version of Windows to make sure this is supported.
