Q321379 - Printing Directory Listing with Vista

R

Ron Smith

I am still having problems with the following Q321379 Article by Microsoft.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321379
It works sometimes, but most of the time I end up with an empty Directory
Listing, even though the Folder contains lots of folders and files.

I am unsure about Step 5 of the Registry instructions:

1.Start Registry Editor.
2.Locate the following registry key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell
3.On the Edit menu, click New, and then click Key. Type Print Directory
Listing, and then press ENTER.
4.Select Print Directory Listing, click New on the Edit menu, and then click
Key.
5.Enter a command for the name of the new subkey, and then press ENTER.
6.Double-click the default entry that is listed in the "command" subkey.
7.In the Value data box, type Printdir.bat %1.
8.Click OK, and then exit Registry Editor.

I just entered "Command" for Step 5 -- is that OK -- could that be causing
my problem. For some reason, I don't think so because the Print operations
works, some of the time -- but woud still like to know what is expected in
Step 5.

Anyway, the "Print Dir" shows up when I right-click a folder, but the
results are not consistent when click on it -- sometimes it prints the
Directory Listing, but most of the time it just prints an empty
Directory/Folder.

Is there some fix for this. I really want the capacility to print out the
Directory Listing of the contents of a folder. I wish MS would provide this
feature.
