Problem printing directory lists in Explorer (Win XP)

I have followed the instructions in How to add the Print Directory feature
for folders in Windows XP, article 321379. This did add Print Directory
Listing to the folder properties menu, however, when I click Print Directory
Listing, I only see a brief flash of a DOS window and nothing else happens.
What's up?

It is sent to the print spooler. Is your printer turned on? Check in
the queue and see if it is there waiting for you. Doubleclick the printer
under the Control Panel>Printers and Faxes.
