I'm having some trubble...

I wanted to upgrade my server to windows 2000 and keep my users etc. (about
100 users).
Therefor i set up an temporary NT 4.0 server as a BDC, and promoted that
server to be the new PDC and the old PDC became an BDC. (it is now listed as
an Backup in server manager).
Then i upgradered my temporary server to windows 2000 server, installed
Active Directory.
All users and groups etc was moved.
Well, then the problem started... during installation, i let AD install the
DNS service.
Now when i go into dns and my domain, it does not shows me this in the list:
_MSDCS
_SITES
_TCP
_UDP

I've tried to delete the dns domain and add it again, no luck..
Therefor i want to start from the beginning again...
How can i change my NT 4.0 BDC back to be a PDC?

Or, is there some other things that i can do to fix this?

fyi: I'm posting this issue in diffrent news groups.

Thanks for all your help! :)

Best regards,

I would suggest that you try to fix the DNS problem. If the DC is failing
to register its srv records then there are a few things that you should
check.

1. Verify that the DC is configured to point to the Windows 2000 DNS server
in it's TCP/IP properties.
2. Verify that the DC is configured to automatically update its dns records
in DNS. That's in the advanced TCP/IP properties under the DNS tab.
3. Verify that the DNS zone is configured to allow dynamic updates.
4. Verify that you do not have a disjointed namespace. Look at the computer
identification. Your Fully qualified computer name should match your
domain. If your cumputer is named SERVER1 and your domain is DOMAIN1.COM
then the FQDN should be SERVSER1.DOMAIN1.COM.
5. Verify that the zone on the DNS server does match your domain name.
6. If all of the above are correct then you should try to force the DC to
register its host record vy typing ipconfig /registerdns. You should also
force it to register SRV records by restarting the netlogon service.

Configure the new server to use the current DNS server for now. It will
need to query DNS for the SRV records in order to complete the promotion
process. You can install DNS on it after it has been promoted and make it
an AD integrated zone. You don't necessarily need a second DNS server. It
is good for redundancy . It all depends on your environment.
