Q. Do I have Windows 2000 Pro or Windows 2000 Pro Server ?

Hi,

It's been a while, and I lost the installation cd.
I can't tell if my Windows 2000 is server or not.

How can I tell ?

Also, I'm told I'm better to stick with 2000 Pro, than going with
anything more advanced at this time.
What are your opinions ?

Thanks,

Jim

You'd know if you had Server... Or just press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and look at
the logo.

See Ray's post for answer to your first question.
As for this question, no one here can give you an answer to that, unless you
tell us what you plan on doing with this computer. If you plan on running a
domain, but have no server, then obviously you should look into getting a
Server OS. If you're just doing regular old day-to-day computing, 2000 Pro
or XP Pro are good choices. Also, hardware requirements for 2000 Server are
higher than for 2000 Pro. So unless you tell us what you plan on doing, we
can't give you a definite answer as to what's best for you. But that's a
starting point.
