PWS

The more I test database features I realize Personal Web Server will
eliminate a lot of 'publishing' back an forth, therefore I wish to install
PWS.
I have FP 2002. Can anyone recommend where I should download it.
Also, do I need to uninstall current version of FP first?

What operating system do you use?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

If it is 2000 Professional, you need to install
IIS from the CD.
Control panel > Add/Remove programs
and I think it's the New Components button.
( not at my 2K PRO machine a the moment )

What is it which makes you think you hae to un-install current version
of Front Page?

Front Page and IIS are two separate, but related, products. Front Page
is a web site editor/site manager program. IIS is a web server. They
work together.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

S

Steve Easton

Nope.
Just shut down FrontPage and install IIS.
IIS is a stand alone program.

thanks for everyones help. I see IIS is on OS. Not like years ago, when
PWS was on FP disc. Unfortunately I don't have original OS 2000 CD, so I'm
out of luck?

T

teds

Not there. also went to add/remove windows components. IIS can be
selected, when when I select it, it requires me to insert CD which I dont
have. too bad PWS doesn't come with FP 2000 (I have original CD for this)
like it used to in FP 98. Any other ideas?

Ted-
Check your computer for a directory called I386. If it is present and
occupied by cab files, try adding IIS again and when prompted for the disc
browse to that folder.

Excellent theory, but I have no CAB files in that directory
(c:/winnt/servicepackfiles/i386)

You are correct; i was hiding some files from 'view'. now i see 3 cab files
msjdbc.cab, ims.cab and fp40ext.cab.

I assume I should point to to fp40ext.cab?

Last month we moved from Pennsy to Florida. i'm missing a few disks
including OS 2000. When it has crashed, i never had to restore OS yet.
(fingers crossed)

If it is not on your HD, and you don't have the OS CD, then you will need to
contact MS for a replacement OS CD.

If you just need a web server, and can't get PWS, use Apache which is
free for download from www.apache.org. As you may be aware it's in
ubiquitious use in the world.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

BTW, just curious. If you don't have the cd, what are you going to do
when

your system crashes and you need to reinstall Windows?

Did you actually do a search on the machine including hidden files and
folders, or just look for it in your directory?

However there are not FP extensions for Apache under Windows, so the benefit
of being able to work locally with FP directly against a web server is not
available.
