PW Protection

Hi. I have two pc's networked using a router with internet
access via cable modem. Both are xp pro systems sp1, and I
am the only user account on each, with no pw setup at all.
I have run the network setup wizard on each selecting the
residential gateway option. Both see each other in network
places but only one can actually access the other. The one
that can not access the other gets a user name and pw box
when I click on the pc. Guest accounts are enabled but
turned off on both also. Help? Anyone?

Create matching user accounts on both computers: same user name and
password.

I do not have a pw, and the account names are the same on
each pc, both as administrator. I still can not access one
of the pc's. I get a username pw prompt. The other pc
access the shares just fine. Help.

XP won't let you use no password to remote access the machine. Of course
this only matter is Simple File Sharing is off.

If simple file sharing is enabled (which it is by default), all that
should be necessary is to enable the Guest account for network access.
Use this command:

net user guest /active:yes

It makes no difference whether the Guest account is enabled for local
login in Control Panel | User Accounts.

If you've explicitly disabled simple file sharing, networked access
without a password requires a local security policy change as shown
here:
