Putting Shortcut on Task Bar

S

Scott

I have a shortcut to a program on my Win XP Pro machine on my desktop. I'd
like to place the shortcut on the taskbar next to the icon that you click on
to show the desktop (to the right of the the Start Menu button). How do I
do that?

Thanks!

Drag and Drop the short icon to the Taskbar. You may need to 'Unlock' the
taskbar and expand the area allowed for the Shortcut icon to be visible,
then lock the taskbar again.

Right click the task bar to unlock it.

Related question. How do you remove a shortcut from the Toolbar. Dragging to
the Trash doesn't seem to work.

Thanks, Paul

Hi Paul,

Put the cursor on the shortcut on the taskbar. Right click and one of the
choices will be "Delete".

Good luck, Dan

Place the cursor over the icon (shortcut) you wish to delete, right click
and select the 'Delete' option.

From the QL and other tool bars on the Taskbar, you can right-click,
click Delete.

If the Tool bar is in IE, there are other ways to remove them.

First of all, note that what you are asking about is *not* the Task
Bar. It's the Quick Launch Bar. The Quick Launch Bar is a separate
toolbar, that, by default, resides *on* the Task Bar. However, the
Quick Launch Bar can easily be dragged off the Task Bar and docked on
another side of the screen.

How do I
do that?

Simply drag and drop it there.

Thank you, all. When I unlocked the taskbar, I was able to pin the shortcut
just where I wanted.

Somehow I lost the button on the quick launch toolbar that clears the
desktop. Anyone know how to get this back?

First, note that the sentence above is correct, but the subject line
isn't. It's called the "Show Desktop" icon. Note that it was *not* on
the Task Bar, but on the Quick Launch Bar. Despite what many people
think, the Quick launch Bar is not part of the Task Bar, but is a
separate toolbar; although by default, the Quick Launch Bar appears
*on* the Task Bar, and can actually be dragged off it and docked on
whatever side of the screen you prefer.

To get the Show Desktop icon, create a text file in Notepad as
follows:

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Save it as Show Desktop.scf then drag it to the Quick launch bar.
Or just click on this link:

Restore/Add Show Desktop to Quick Launch (Line 61)

Also note that you can do this with a keyboard shortcut: the
combination of the Windows key + D or the Windows key + M.
