Is it recommended to put the PST file as an offline file, to allow a laptop
user to user her outlook while being off the network ?

IN an Exchange environment? No, that's not recommended. The user should be using an offline folders .ost file.

No. I tried that and it very soon corrupted while synchronising. The best
answer is here:

Although it says it was developed for photos, it works extremely well with
pst files!
